New law requires boater education

It’s not too early to register for a boating class this fall that will satisfy a new state education requirement for any motorboat operators younger than 26.
The Cape Fear Sail and Power Squadron is offering America’s Boating Course, Third Edition, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 10, 17 and 24, at Cape Fear Community College. The cost of materials is $40.
For information, contact Peter Dahl at 681-1106 or go to www.capefearpowersquadron.org.
The new law, which takes effect May 1, requires anyone younger than 26 operating a boat with a motor of 10 horsepower or greater to complete a course instituted by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission or one approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and pass the exam. The Power Squadron course is among those certified, according to a news release.
